Barcelona produced another spectacular attacking performance by defeating Feyenoord 5–1 in their Champions League opener.
The Catalan club dominated the match and once again demonstrated the attacking quality available under manager Hansi Flick.
Raphinha was one of the main stars, scoring twice and continuing his excellent start to the season. The Brazilian has become Barcelona’s leading attacking threat and was heavily involved throughout the match.
Barcelona also received important contributions from Lamine Yamal and Gabriel Jesus, while the team’s overall attacking movement repeatedly caused problems for Feyenoord.
The victory continues an extraordinary start to the season for Barcelona. The club have already scored 22 goals in their opening five competitive matches, demonstrating just how dangerous their attack has become.
Interestingly, Barcelona have achieved these numbers without relying on a traditional number nine. Following Robert Lewandowski’s departure, Flick has instead spread the goals among several attacking players.
Raphinha has emerged as the leading scorer, while Lamine Yamal, Fermín López, Dani Olmo and Gabriel Jesus have all contributed.
Against Feyenoord, Barcelona once again demonstrated their ability to create chances from multiple areas of the pitch. Their movement and passing made it difficult for the Dutch side to defend consistently.
The result also gives Barcelona an ideal start to their Champions League campaign. After missing out on European glory in previous seasons, the Catalan club will hope their attacking form can carry them deep into the competition.
Feyenoord were unable to cope with Barcelona’s quality, but the match also highlighted how quickly Barcelona can turn possession into dangerous attacking opportunities.
With Raphinha in outstanding form and young stars such as Yamal continuing to develop, Barcelona appear to have plenty of attacking firepower.
The 5–1 victory therefore represents more than just three points. It is another demonstration that Barcelona’s attack could become one of the defining features of their Champions League campaign.
