Inter Milan continued their strong start to the Serie A season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cagliari.
The decisive moment arrived early when Hakan Çalhanoğlu found the back of the net in the ninth minute. The midfielder took advantage of space created by Inter’s movement and produced a composed finish to give the visitors the lead.
Inter controlled much of the opening period after taking the advantage. Their passing was patient and their movement in midfield created several opportunities to increase the lead.
Cagliari, however, remained competitive. Playing at home, they gradually became more adventurous and looked for opportunities to put pressure on Inter’s defence.
Inter goalkeeper Josep Martínez and the defenders were forced to remain alert as Cagliari searched for an equaliser. The visitors managed the game intelligently, using possession to slow the tempo whenever necessary.
Inter also had opportunities to make the result more comfortable. Several attacking moves produced dangerous situations, but Cagliari’s goalkeeper prevented the scoreline from becoming more emphatic.
The second half became increasingly tense as Cagliari pushed forward. Inter responded with tactical changes, bringing fresh legs into midfield and attack in an attempt to maintain control.
Despite the pressure, Inter held on.
The victory is valuable because it demonstrates that the team can win difficult matches without needing to score several goals. In a long Serie A campaign, those narrow victories can prove extremely important.
Çalhanoğlu was naturally the hero because of his early goal, but the collective defensive performance deserves equal recognition.
Inter will know that there are areas to improve, particularly in terms of finishing chances and killing matches off earlier. Nevertheless, taking three points away from a difficult trip represents an excellent result.
With the season still young, Inter’s priority will be building consistency. Another victory provides exactly the kind of foundation they need as they prepare for more demanding fixtures.
