Nicolas Jackson is closing in on a move from Chelsea to Aston Villa as Unai Emery looks for a new attacking option following Ollie Watkins’ departure.
The Senegal international has been part of Chelsea’s first-team plans in recent seasons, but his position at Stamford Bridge has become increasingly uncertain following the club’s continued investment in attacking players.
Villa have moved quickly because Watkins’ departure leaves a major gap in their squad. Replacing a striker who scored 91 Premier League goals for the club is never going to be straightforward, but Jackson offers a different profile that could fit Emery’s system.
Jackson is known for his pace, movement and ability to attack space behind defenders. Those qualities could make him particularly useful for Villa, especially when the team looks to transition quickly from midfield into attack.
The move also gives Jackson an opportunity to restart his career away from the pressure surrounding his time at Chelsea. Although he produced important goals and strong performances in London, inconsistency and competition for places often made his position difficult.
At Villa, he could immediately become one of the main attacking options. Emery will expect him to contribute goals, but the manager will also demand intelligent movement and defensive work from the forward.
The transfer is part of a significant period of change at Villa. Watkins is heading to Saudi Arabia, while the club have also strengthened elsewhere, including the arrival of former Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.
For Chelsea, Jackson’s departure would further reshape an already crowded attacking group. The club have continued to make major changes under Xabi Alonso, meaning several players are competing for limited positions.
For Villa, however, the focus is much simpler. They need goals.
Jackson now has the chance to become the player who helps fill the enormous attacking void left by Watkins. If he can find consistency, the move could prove valuable for both the striker and the club.
