The Enzo Fernández transfer saga has taken another major turn, with Chelsea now expecting the Argentine midfielder to remain at Stamford Bridge after Manchester City failed to meet their £120 million deadline.
City had maintained contact with Fernández’s camp and continued exploring the possibility of bringing the midfielder to Manchester. However, Chelsea had made it clear that any deal would have to meet their full valuation before the deadline.
That deadline passed without an acceptable offer.
For Chelsea, keeping Fernández could prove extremely important. The midfielder remains a key figure in the squad, and losing him this late in the transfer window would have left the club with very little time to find a suitable replacement. With the new season approaching, keeping an established player could give the team much-needed stability.
Manchester City’s interest was understandable. The club are looking at their midfield options and Fernández would bring technical quality, energy and experience to the team. The possibility of working with former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca again also added another interesting layer to the story.
However, City have so far decided not to meet Chelsea’s demands.
That does not necessarily mean the story is completely finished. The transfer window is still open, and City could potentially explore different conditions for a deal. For now, though, Chelsea are comfortable with keeping their midfielder and continuing with him for the new campaign.
For Fernández, the situation provides some clarity after weeks of speculation surrounding his future. Instead of preparing for a move to Manchester, he can now focus on Chelsea and the season ahead.
Chelsea have stood firm on their valuation, while City have refused to pay the required amount.
For the Blues, that could turn out to be one of their biggest wins of the transfer window.
