Clearlake already holds the majority share of Chelsea and has significant influence over the club’s day-to-day operations. A successful buyout would give the investment firm much greater control and potentially bring an end to the tensions that have existed within the ownership structure.
The proposed transaction is reportedly expected to value Chelsea at around £5 billion. Boehly and Walter would make a profit on their original investment if the agreement is completed.
