Liverpool were forced to settle for another draw after Nottingham Forest twice took the lead at Anfield before Victor Muñoz rescued a point for the Reds late in the second half.
Forest started the match with confidence and quickly showed that they were not going to sit back and simply defend. Their approach paid off when Dan Ndoye opened the scoring after a quick counterattack, putting Liverpool under immediate pressure. The home side struggled to find the rhythm they wanted, while Forest looked dangerous whenever they attacked space behind Liverpool’s defence.
Liverpool eventually found an equaliser through Alexander Isak, who finished from Cody Gakpo’s delivery. The goal appeared to give the hosts the momentum they needed, but Forest responded once again. Morgan Gibbs-White restored their advantage from the penalty spot after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was penalised for a foul.
With time running out, Liverpool increased the pressure and threw more players forward. Forest defended desperately, but Muñoz produced the decisive moment. The Liverpool winger struck a powerful effort that found the net after hitting the underside of the crossbar, bringing the score level at 2-2.
The result leaves Liverpool still searching for their first league victory of the campaign. Although there were positive attacking moments, the defensive problems that have troubled the team remained obvious.
For Forest, the performance will feel like a major step forward. They showed character after Liverpool equalised and were close to securing a famous victory at Anfield.
Liverpool will now have to improve quickly. The attacking quality is clearly there, but conceding twice at home and dropping another two points will increase the pressure surrounding the team’s early-season form.
