Newcastle United have completed the signing of Bosnia and Herzegovina international Amar Dedić from Benfica, adding another important piece to their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
The 24-year-old right-back has signed a five-year contract after Newcastle agreed a deal worth around £29.5 million. Dedić becomes the club’s sixth signing of the summer and arrives at a time when Newcastle need greater depth at right-back.
His arrival is particularly important because Tino Livramento is still recovering from injury, while Kieran Trippier has already left the club. Dedić therefore gives manager Matthias Jaissle another reliable option in a position that needed strengthening.
There is also a familiar connection between the player and his new manager. Dedić previously worked under Jaissle at Red Bull Salzburg, where the defender developed into one of the more promising full-backs in European football.
Dedić spent last season with Benfica and made a strong impression during his time in Portugal. He also represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2026 World Cup, gaining valuable international experience at the highest level.
Newcastle are clearly building for a new era under Jaissle, and Dedić fits the profile of the kind of player the club wants to bring in. He is still young enough to develop further but already has experience in several European competitions.
The Magpies are not finished in the transfer market either. The club are continuing to explore further additions, particularly in midfield, as they look to build a squad capable of competing at the top end of the Premier League.
Dedić’s arrival could therefore be just the beginning of another busy few weeks for Newcastle.
