Sidelined since June, the team is eager to re-sign its veteran forward Tristan Thompson with a one-year contract as per ESPN. Thompson is 33 years old and has played most of his career for the Cavaliers he will enter his 11th season with the team. He was a regular on the 2016 team that won the Cavaliers their first title in the franchises history and has been a regular in Cleveland bar one seasons stint with the Celtics, Kings, Bulls and Pacers.
However, Cavaliers have proved to be Thompson’s best of his years in his entire basketball career. Kyrie Irving was selected by Cleveland at the 2011 NBA draft with the first overall pick out of Texas, he emerged as a consistent, and efficient power forward throughout the team’s run as playoff power house. He scored nine points and 8, that is, he has been performing nine goals for each match as well as has a total of eight rebounds. In terms of averages he has 3 rebounds for the Cavaliers in 10 seasons.
Thompson is not as valuable on the court as he was when he ripped through the NBA during the championship season with the Cavaliers, but his championship-winning experience and wisdom will come in handy on a team that will be aiming at competing in the playoffs. Thompson played 49 games for the Cavaliers last season with 25 of them missed due to suspension after he tested positive for a banned substance. Thompson also spent some DNP in the Cleveland playoff run for some spot minutes. He may only come of the bench for a few minutes but when he plays, he hustles for rebounds, and provides a good screen, which are vital to Cleveland.
The Cavaliers have high expectations overall; being optimistic that unlike last season where they were defeated by the Celtics in the second round of play-offs in May this season they will go further in the coupe.
The Cleveland Cavaliers management is recalling approximately the same players to have a fresh season filled with continuity and definitely the health factor. They are also pinning their hopes on new head coach so that this team will finally have a chance to go to the next level. Since the end of the season the Cavs dismissed J. B. Bickerstaff and hired Kenny Atkinson to replace him. Atkinson was an assistant with the Warriors over the past seasons and before that a head coach of the Nets for four seasons.
