Barcelona have continued their commitment to teenage forward Hamza Abdelkarim by extending his contract until 2030.
The Egyptian youngster has attracted considerable attention since arriving at the club, particularly after an impressive pre-season campaign in which he scored four goals in five matches.
His performances helped convince Barcelona that he should remain part of their long-term plans. The new agreement reportedly comes with a significantly increased release clause of €150 million.
Abdelkarim’s development has been closely followed because of the enormous expectations surrounding him. He has even received the nickname “Haaland of the Nile” because of comparisons between his style and that of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
Despite his impressive pre-season, however, Abdelkarim has found opportunities harder to come by during competitive matches. He has made only a brief appearance in La Liga so far, playing four minutes against Rayo Vallecano.
Rather than becoming frustrated, the teenager has publicly maintained a patient attitude. He has spoken positively about manager Hansi Flick and the support he receives from his teammates.
Barcelona’s decision to renew him demonstrates the club’s confidence in his potential. The Catalan side have increasingly focused on developing young players, and Abdelkarim appears to be another player they believe could eventually become important to the first team.
The striker could also potentially spend some time with Barça Atlètic to gain more competitive minutes if opportunities at senior level remain limited.
For now, Abdelkarim’s immediate objective is development. His new contract gives him long-term security while Barcelona continue deciding the best pathway for his progression.
