Manchester United have banned 685 season-ticket holders following a major investigation into ticket touting and misuse of the club’s ticketing system.
The investigation began after the club identified more than 1,600 accounts displaying unusual activity. United subsequently contacted account holders and investigated whether tickets were being improperly resold for financial gain.
The club has defended the crackdown, arguing that organized ticket touting makes it harder for genuine supporters to attend matches.
After reviewing the cases, United imposed season-long bans on hundreds of supporters. Other accounts received warnings or reduced sanctions, while a significant number of cases were closed after the club accepted explanations from account holders.
The club says the objective is to protect ordinary supporters and prevent organized networks from exploiting Manchester United’s ticketing system.
However, the decision has caused considerable anger among sections of the fanbase.
Some supporters believe the investigation has been too aggressive and argue that loyal fans may have been punished without enough transparency. Fan groups have criticized the process and called for greater clarity over how decisions were reached.
The timing has made the controversy even more significant.
Manchester United are preparing to face Manchester City in the Manchester derby, meaning tensions around Old Trafford are already high.
Supporters have planned protests surrounding the fixture, turning the match into an important moment both on and off the pitch.
