Curtis Jones is on the verge of ending his long Liverpool journey after Inter Milan agreed a deal worth around £30 million for the midfielder.
The 25-year-old has reportedly been given permission to travel to Italy for his medical, with the transfer now entering its final stages. The agreement is understood to include an initial fee plus potential add-ons and a sell-on clause.
Jones has spent almost his entire footballing life at Liverpool, joining the club as a youngster before progressing through the academy and eventually becoming a first-team player.
His departure will therefore be an emotional one for Liverpool supporters, particularly because Jones came through the club’s own system and played an important role during the team’s recent successful years.
For Inter, the move represents an opportunity to add a technically gifted and versatile midfielder to their squad. Jones’ ability to operate in different midfield roles makes him an attractive option for the Italian champions.
For Liverpool, however, losing a homegrown midfielder so close to the beginning of the new season raises questions about squad depth. The Reds have already been active in the transfer market, but Jones’ exit means another gap could need filling.
