Manchester United are closing in on an agreement to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, with the deal expected to be worth more than £60 million including potential add-ons.
The 22-year-old Cameroon international has been one of United’s main midfield targets, and negotiations have advanced significantly. Personal terms are reportedly in place, while the remaining work is focused on finalising the transfer fee and structure.
Baleba is viewed as the kind of midfielder United have been missing: physically strong, athletic, aggressive in the tackle and capable of carrying the ball forward. His ability to play as a defensive midfielder could give Michael Carrick more control and energy in the middle of the pitch.
United have already strengthened their midfield this summer with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, but Baleba would add a different profile to the squad.
Interestingly, Brighton previously valued Baleba at well over £100 million when United first showed serious interest. His inconsistent 2025/26 campaign has contributed to his current lower valuation, allowing United to pursue a deal at a considerably reduced price.
Baleba is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury, although it is not expected to keep him out for an extended period.
If United complete the move, Baleba would become one of the biggest additions of their summer rebuild and another major statement of intent ahead of the new season.
