Aston Villa have stepped up their summer rebuild by confirming two new signings as Unai Emery continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
The club have moved quickly in recent days, bringing in goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and defender Matteo Ruggeri as they look to strengthen two important areas of the team.
Suzuki arrives as competition for Emiliano Martínez, while Ruggeri gives Villa another option at left-back following Lucas Digne’s departure. Both players are viewed as long-term additions rather than short-term solutions, fitting into Villa’s plans to build a stronger and more balanced squad.
The double move comes during an extremely busy period for the club. Villa have already seen several major changes to their squad this summer, including the departure of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans to Manchester United.
There is also uncertainty surrounding Ollie Watkins, with Al-Hilal continuing to show interest in the England striker. Villa have already rejected bids for Watkins, but the Saudi club’s pursuit could become one of the biggest stories of the final weeks of the window.
At the same time, Villa are still working on further additions. João Palhinha remains a player of interest as Emery looks to add more strength and experience to his midfield.
The latest signings therefore appear to be part of a much bigger rebuild at Villa Park. Emery will be hoping the new arrivals can settle quickly, especially with the new Premier League campaign approaching.
