Real Madrid have reportedly revived their interest in Arsenal midfielder Martín Zubimendi, just one year after the Spain international moved to the Emirates.
Zubimendi has quickly become an important part of Arsenal’s midfield, making the possibility of Madrid attempting to prise him away particularly intriguing. The Spanish giants are understood to be looking at midfield options as they continue planning for the future of their squad.
The interest is not entirely new. Real Madrid had previously considered Zubimendi before Arsenal won the race for his signature. Now, with Madrid once again looking for midfield reinforcements, his name has returned to the conversation.
For Arsenal, the timing could hardly be more awkward. The Gunners spent heavily to bring Zubimendi to London and see him as part of their long-term midfield plans. Losing him after only one season would leave Mikel Arteta with another major squad decision to make.
Reports suggest Arsenal would demand a substantial fee before even considering a sale, with figures around £77 million being mentioned. That would represent a significant increase on the amount Arsenal paid to sign him.
There is also no indication that Arsenal are actively trying to sell the midfielder. The current situation appears to be driven primarily by Madrid’s interest rather than Arsenal making Zubimendi available.
For Real Madrid, Zubimendi’s technical ability, experience in Spanish football and international pedigree make him an attractive option. But convincing Arsenal to let go of a player they only recently signed could prove extremely difficult.
For now, it remains a transfer story rather than a completed deal—but Madrid’s renewed interest could become one of the more interesting sagas of the summer window.
