Aston Villa are preparing to say goodbye to one of the most important forwards in the club’s recent history, with Ollie Watkins set to complete a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
The England striker has agreed to leave Villa in a deal worth around £50 million, bringing an emotional end to a hugely successful spell at the club. Watkins joined Villa from Brentford and gradually established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards.
His departure represents a major change for Unai Emery’s team. Watkins became Villa’s all-time leading Premier League goalscorer, reaching 91 league goals, while scoring 108 times in all competitions. His pace, movement and ability to stretch defences made him one of the central figures in Villa’s attack.
The transfer has also created an emotional atmosphere around the club. Watkins apologised to Emery and his teammates after missing Villa’s opening league match against Brighton as he attempted to resolve his future.
