Arsenal may have only signed Martin Zubimendi last summer, but the Spanish midfielder is already attracting serious attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Chelsea and Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring his situation, with Arsenal believed to have placed a huge valuation on the 27-year-old.
Zubimendi has become an important part of Arsenal’s midfield since arriving from Real Sociedad. His composure on the ball, intelligent positioning and ability to control the tempo of a game have made him a natural fit for Mikel Arteta’s system.
However, the situation has become more complicated following Arsenal’s agreement to bring in Bruno Guimarães. The Brazilian midfielder can operate in a similar position, potentially creating more competition for places in the middle of the pitch.
That has apparently opened the door to speculation that Arsenal could consider selling Zubimendi if the right offer arrives. The reported asking price is around €90 million, a figure that would make any potential transfer a major deal.
Chelsea could be particularly interested. Their new manager, Xabi Alonso, is believed to be an admirer of Zubimendi and has previously been linked with the midfielder. A move to Stamford Bridge would also give Zubimendi the opportunity to work under another Spanish coach who understands his style of football.
Real Madrid are also keeping an eye on the situation as they consider options for strengthening their midfield.
For Arsenal, though, the priority will be maintaining a strong squad ahead of the new season. Zubimendi has only spent one year in north London, and losing him now would leave Arteta with another major decision to make.
For the moment, Arsenal appear prepared to listen—but only if their valuation is met. Whether Chelsea or Real Madrid are willing to pay such a significant fee remains the big question.
