Arsenal transfer news: Alexander Isak hopes dashed as midfielder considers January exit

Alexander Isak has been linked with Arsenal but Mikel Arteta's chances of signing the Newcastle striker in January now look slim, although one of their own, Jorginho, could be on the move

Arsenal supporters are hoping that their club can find some deals in the January sales, as their once-promising season is now at risk of falling apart.

Mikel Arteta and Co. are clinging onto hopes of lifting a major trophy, with a huge FA Cup clash with Manchester United to come on Sunday. The Gunners lost the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final 2-0 at home to Newcastle on Tuesday, giving them a mountain to climb up at St James’ Park next month.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are already six points adrift of Liverpool in the Premier League title race, despite having played one game more. The Gunners’ struggles in attack have been discussed more than ever in recent weeks and that’s the position where fans hope their squad can be bolstered before deadline day.

Isak hopes dashed

Alexander Isak is out of Arsenal’s price range, with the Gunners now forced to turn to other targets. Isak, 25, is enjoying a spell of red-hot form, opening the scoring for Newcastle in their midweek triumph at the Emirates.

The Swedish striker has scored 10 goals in his last nine games and if anyone came calling for his services, the Mail report that Newcastle would demand a British-record transfer worth more than the £115million Chelsea paid Brighton to sign Moises Caicedo in 2023. Arsenal simply can’t afford to pay that fee as things stand.
