Georgia bulldogs on the other side, will be up against Notre Dame fighting Irish in the sugar bowl.

The Georgia Bulldogs now know who they will face in their opening College Football Playoff game of 2024.

After round one of the inaugural season of the 12-team College Football Playoff, the Georgia Bulldogs learned they will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl. The Irish advanced to round two of the playoff after they trounced the 11th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers at home. It was the first-ever College Football Playoff victory for the Irish.

Though both teams boast tons of history, the Bulldogs and Irish have played sparsely over the years, with their last matchup occurring in Athens during the 2019 season. The Bulldogs would go on to win the game and make it three straight over the Irish. Georgia now leads the all-time series history 3-0.

The Bulldogs will enter this contest with a rest advantage over the Irish, having been awarded a bye week in round one of the playoff after winning the SEC Championship game over the Texas Longhorns. That extra rest likely will do the Bulldogs some good, as they have had a few starters and key contributors injured during the season. Including starting quarterback Carson Beck, who injured his throwing arm in the SEC Championship. Beck is unlikely to play in the Sugar Bowl and his availability for the rest of the playoff is very much in doubt.

The Bulldogs and Irish meet in the Caesers Superdome with a right to move on in the 12-team playoff on the line. Kickoff time for this matchup is 8:45 p.m.
